Man2Man

Do you need to talk man to man?

Man2Man is a confidential and effective counselling service for men - face to face or on the telephone.

I have been counselling men for nearly ten years. I understand the issues that you bring. I've struggled with many of them myself.

Man2Man offers non-judgemental support in a safe environment from someone experienced and skilled at moving you on.

Q. So what difference does being a man make?
A. OK, men aren't that different from women. (We are not from Mars.) But we often communicate differently, see the world differently and have different needs. Talking man to man can help you feel understood and accepted.

Q. What problems can counselling help me with?
A. You could be needing help with a variety of issues. Anger. Loss of direction. Sexuality. Fatherhood. Masculinity. Relationships at work or home. Stress. Self-esteem. Bullying. Depression. Any of these problems - and more - can be helped by counselling.

Q. How can talking help anyway?
A. Getting your thoughts and feelings into words can be a relief. It can help you understand yourself better, which is often the first step to change. But counselling is also about showing you how to use the skills and resources that you already have to make a real difference in your life.

Q. Isn't counselling a bit weird?
A. You may feel anxious about what to expect. But I don't use any cushions, candles, drum-beating, rituals or mumbo-jumbo. There's just a comfortable, private room and a man who is experienced at addressing the problems that men bring. For more about how I work, see About me
.

Q. Isn't it 'unmanly' to ask for help?
A. Men are used to solving problems, not sharing them, I know. But let's not pretend that we don't struggle sometimes. We're only human, after all. And it's a sign of strength, not weakness, to ask for professional help when things go wrong. Sharing a problem is often the first step towards solving it.
